Ground Broken at New Penticton Fire Hall Headquarters

The 26,000-square-foot hall will add training space, dorms and four apparatus bays to support 24-hour shifts, city officials said.

  • On Thursday, Oct. 1, Penticton Fire Department officials broke ground on a new $37 million headquarters at 271 Dawson Ave., replacing the department's current Nanaimo Avenue location.
  • Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield called the project "long overdue," noting the existing hall had "passed its time." The city avoided a referendum because debt sits within the "assent-free zone."
  • The 26,000-square-foot facility features a four-storey hose tower and living space supporting 24-hour shifts. PFD Chief Mike Larsson said the design is "way safer" for staff and will improve community response times.
  • Curtis Gibbons, president of the local firefighters union, emphasized that fresh ventilation will protect staff from contaminants. The Nanaimo Avenue site will transition to a satellite station and emergency operations centre with $1 million in upgrades.
  • Construction is estimated to take about two years. Penticton City Council plans phased-in tax increases for the 2027 and 2028 budget years, with exact amounts subject to year-end deliberations.
