Michael Landon’s ‘Highway to Heaven’ to Get Reboot on Fox
The reboot keeps the original’s uplifting premise and will be owned and distributed by Fox as part of its push for more controlled content.
- Fox Television Network ordered a new adaptation of Highway to Heaven for the 2027-28 season, with Emmy-winning writer Jason Katims serving as showrunner for the reboot about an earthbound angel helping people across America.
- Created by Michael Landon, the original series aired on NBC from 1984 to 1989, starring Landon as a probationary angel sent to Earth by The Boss to perform good deeds alongside retired policeman Mark Gordon.
- Katims joins executive producers Cindy Landon, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Todd Cohen. Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn said the team is 'building on Highway to Heaven's timeless legacy of transformation and optimism.'
- Fox Entertainment Studios will produce and own the series, which Fox Entertainment Global will distribute worldwide. The reboot marks the second 2027-28 greenlight, joining the Family Guy spinoff Stewie.
- The reboot continues Fox's strategy of prioritizing feel-good programming, following success with series such as Doc, Best Medicine, and Baywatch in recent years.
