Highguard's 5v5 mode is a total game-changer, and should become permanent
Wildlight Entertainment made the 5v5 Raid mode permanent in Highguard after player feedback showed it increased action and pace, with a near even split in mode preference, developers said.
- On Friday, Wildlight Entertainment unveiled an experimental 5v5 Raid mode for Highguard, and after strong community support and a fairly even split with 3v3, the studio is keeping it permanent.
- Players and community feedback highlighted that 3v3 felt too slow, with critics saying matches dragged and lacked backup, while many urged trying 5v5 to improve pace and social play.
- With 10 players in each match, 5v5 makes coordination easier and raises the chance of nearby backup before the Soul Orb is destroyed.
- Wildlight plans further patches to address technical and balance issues, as switching from six to 10 players greatly increases performance requirements and could cause frame-rate drops, while 5v5 is likely to reshape balance and the metagame.
- After its Game Awards spotlight, Highguard's quick mode change shows the studio reacting to players, and time will tell if the changes help build a strong community in the coming months.
