Hideaki Anno, Yutaka Izubuchi Co-Direct Yamato √2199 Film at I.G, Khara
The film will feature new anime footage and marks a reunion for two directors tied to the long-running franchise, rights holders said.
- On Tuesday, Hideaki Anno and Yutaka Izubuchi announced they are co-directing the feature-length anime film Cosmoship Yamato √2199, produced by Studio Khara in collaboration with Production I.G.
- Anno, a self-described 'huge Yamato fan since the second year of junior high school,' stated the franchise shaped his career: 'Without this work, anime would have been in a different form than it is today.'
- Khara received license approvals from Voyager Holdings and Tohokushinsha Film Corporation to produce new footage, with Production I.G founder Mitsuhisa Ishikawa serving as executive producer.
- This collaboration arrives as the franchise continues its Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 remake series, which began this past July with the release of the first film, Dark Invasion.
- The final film in the series will open in Japan on October 30, building on the legacy of the original 1974 Space Battleship Yamato series.
