Four weeks less, nearly same cure rate for hepatitis C: SGPGI-led study
The findings of the trial, conducted over more than a year and published in The Lancet recently, suggest that hepatitis C treatment could potentially be shortened by four weeks without a meaningful reduction in effectiveness. This could have implications for treatment programmes in India and other countries.
Doctors have achieved significant success in reducing the duration of treatment for Hepatitis C. In a study conducted in five major government hospitals of the country including SGPGI, Hepatitis C infection was completely cured in 98.8% of the patients after eight weeks of medication.
