Heated Rivalry: HBO/HBO Max's Bloys "Thrilled" with Season 2 Scripts
Following Monday's Emmy Awards, HBO CEO Casey Bloys addressed the network's second-place finish behind Apple TV's 28 wins, while providing updates on upcoming programming including "The Last of Us" and "Heated Rivalry".
Despite taking Outstanding Drama Series for "The Pitt" and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series for "DTF St. Louis", HBO finished second to Apple TV, which captured Comedy Series with "Widow's Bay", denying HBO a sweep.
"The Last of Us" will conclude with its final season in 2027, Bloys confirmed, as showrunner Craig Mazin plans the final installment to adapt the latter half of the game.
The Crave drama "Heated Rivalry" is getting a red carpet premiere in New York this spring, with Bloys "thrilled" with the second season's scripts and calling it "the greatest acquisition in the history of television".
Bloys also outlined HBO's 2027 roster, confirming Season four of "The White Lotus" and addressing stalled installments of "True Detective", "Big Little Lies", and "The Rehearsal", while also discussing the DCU's "Lanterns" and Warner Bros. connection.
