Rangers Make Official Move for Hearts Boss Derek McInnes as Wheels in Motion
Rangers are monitoring McInnes as Hearts prepare to resist any approach and no official contact has been made, officials said.
Rangers have identified Hearts manager Derek McInnes as a candidate to replace Danny Rohl, who is increasingly likely to leave the Glasgow club for Red Bull Salzburg.
Rohl is edging closer to quitting Rangers after eight months in charge to rejoin the Red Bull group in Austria, where he previously worked at Leipzig.
During his debut season in Gorgie, McInnes guided Hearts to second place in the Premiership and led the title race until the final day against Celtic.
Hearts would resist any attempt to lure their manager, with reports indicating the club would demand a "high six-figure fee" if Rangers formalize their interest.
Rangers have drawn up a four-man shortlist including former boss Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat as they move quickly to resolve the position before pre-season training starts next week.
