Health watchdog: Nation’s social work accreditor refuses to remove DEI requirements
The Council on Social Work Education reaffirmed its commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism standards in social work accreditation and refused to remove these requirements despite opposition from Do No Harm, a medical watchdog group.
CSWE requires social work students to understand the impact of White supremacy and to demonstrate anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, which Do No Harm challenges as ideological mandates.
CSWE CEO Halaevalu Vakalahi emphasized that understanding human differences and discrimination is essential for social workers and stated that CSWE has never denied accreditation based on DEI policies.
Kurt Miceli, chief medical officer of Do No Harm, criticized CSWE for prioritizing ideological activism over practical competence and suggested that state-level actions might be necessary if DEI standards are not removed.
