A Veolia-backed report outlined the need to ensure capacity keeps up with the sector. The company said ongoing investments in semiconductors, autos and biotech are spurring new demand for treatment and disposal capacity.
An analysis by Charles River Associates models that a capacity to manage hazardous waste just less than 1% needed to absorb the expected growth could cut by $27.5 billion the increase in real U.S. production between 2023 and 2033. Semiconductors, batteries, chemicals and pharmaceuticals need factories, energy and workers, but also infrastructure capable of treating the waste they generate.
