Mohamed Salah Gets a New German Coach at Turkish Club Trabzonspor
Reis signed a two-year contract and said he will give Salah freedom in attack after replacing Fatih Tekke, who resigned last month.
On Thursday, Turkish club Trabzonspor hired German coach Thomas Reis on a two-year contract after he left Bulgarian club Ludogorets, citing the opportunity to work with star Mohamed Salah.
Reis replaces Fatih Tekke, who resigned last month following Trabzonspor's elimination from the Europa League; the team currently sits ninth in Turkish league standings.
"Working with a player of his caliber," Reis said, adding he would give Salah "freedom in attack" following the star's nine-year spell at Liverpool.
The coach previously led Samsunspor to a third-place finish behind Istanbul powers Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, and expressed interest in working with Fabinho and goalkeeper André Onana.
Trabzonspor begins a six-game Conference League program on Oct. 15 in Finland against KuPS Kuopio, marking a significant test under Reis's new management.
The Trapzon Spur Turkish Club announced the appointment of Thomas Reese as a new team coach, in a step to correct the course after the recent continental failure.
