Hayden Panettiere died from accidental overdose involving fentanyl, coroner's office says
Autopsy found no signs of trauma, and investigators are still examining how the actress obtained the fentanyl and other drugs in her system.
- On Tuesday, the Greenville County Coroner's Office confirmed that actor Hayden Panettiere's death resulted from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. The manner of death was officially ruled an accident.
- Panettiere, 36, died on Aug 16 at a South Carolina apartment complex when Greenville police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive female at around 1:50 p.m. local time. An acquaintance had placed the 911 call.
- Toxicology results identified the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine as the cause of death. An autopsy discovered no signs of trauma that would have contributed to her passing.
- Greenville Police Department investigators found no signs of foul play, though the Drug Enforcement Administration is also investigating. Brian Hickerson, Panettiere's on-again, off-again boyfriend, was present at the apartment and showed authorities a bag of medication.
- Known for starring as Claire Bennet on NBC's "Heroes" and Juliette Barnes on "Nashville," Panettiere detailed her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression in her memoir "This Is Me: A Reckoning." She is survived by her daughter, Kaya.
