Hawks End Kangaroos' AFLW Streak with Massive Upset
Lucy Wales sealed Hawthorn’s first AFLW win over North Melbourne as the Kangaroos’ 32-game streak ended with their lowest score since 2023.
On Friday night in Cairns, Hawthorn upset North Melbourne with a 4.8 to 3.7 victory, ending the Kangaroos' record 32-game winning streak.
North Melbourne had not been defeated since their 2023 grand final loss to Brisbane, building a streak unmatched across AFL, VFL, and AFLW history.
Despite missing captain Emily Bates due to an ACL rupture, Hawthorn applied relentless pressure as midfielder Jasmine Fleming nullified North captain Jasmine Garner before Lucy Wales kicked the sealing goal.
Hawthorn's Jacqueline Dupuy described the feeling as "unreal" after the siren, telling ABC Sport, "In my head, I was just panicking, thinking, 'How long have we got?'"
Dupuy said the team will rest for six days before heading down to Geelong, with the victory positioning the Hawks just outside the top four.
