Harvey Weinstein set to be sentenced for sexual assault after 6-year legal odyssey
- Harvey Weinstein faces sentencing today for sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in 2006, with prosecutors seeking 20 years in prison that would keep him behind bars until his late 80s.
- New York courts overturned Weinstein's 2020 conviction in 2024, ruling he faced prejudice from testimony about other women. He was convicted again last year of assaulting Haley in his Manhattan apartment.
- Haley, represented by lawyer Gloria Allred, plans to address the court at sentencing. Weinstein will also speak, his spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said.
- Currently housed at Bellevue Hospital, the ailing Weinstein faces chronic myeloid leukemia, diabetes, and mobility challenges requiring a wheelchair for court appearances, his lawyers said.
- Once sentenced, Weinstein can appeal the decision. He is also awaiting resentencing in a separate rape case in Los Angeles after an appellate court invalidated his prior sentence.
