Corpus Christi nurses honor ICU nurse Alex Pretti and others they link to ICE-related deaths while urging Congress to halt new ICE funding, organizers said.
- On Thursday evening, registered nurses in Corpus Christi held a vigil at Doctors Regional Medical Center, Corpus Christi at 6:45 p.m. to honor Alex Pretti, ICU registered nurse .
- The deaths of Pretti and Renee Good prompted organizers to link Pretti's Jan. 24 shooting by a Border Patrol officer to Good's Jan. 27 killing by an ICE agent.
- About 150 people attended, organizers said, including local nurses from Corpus Christi Medical Center and neighbors who said they are hurting, while Minerba Ramirez of Mathis said, `What they did to this nurse is wrong. That was a homicide.`
- The shooting investigation remains open, and organizers said National Shutdown protests are planned for Friday nationwide in response to the killings.
- National Nurses United warned that nurses raised concerns about deaths in ICE custody and medical care, affected facilities report people avoiding care, and organizers said they will pressure Congress to stop ICE funding.
