Punjab: Congress protests 'purification' ritual in Haldwani; demands FIR against organisers
Senior leaders and workers of the Punjab Congress staged a massive protest on Monday against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), condemning a "purification" ritual conducted in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani.
The Uttarakhand High Court has disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) in the alleged "purification yajna/havan" case in Haldwani after the state government assured an impartial investigation. Meanwhile, the Congress party has questioned the FIR, sought an appointment with the President, and is preparing to make the issue a major campaign plank ahead of the assembly elections.
Following Mallikarjun Kharge's rally in Haldwani, Congress has launched a campaign against the alleged purification. SC-ST MPs have decided to submit a memorandum to the President on this issue.
