GTA 6 advanced weather system: GTA 6 Weather will go beyond sunshine, but fans are waiting for the biggest storm reveal
Rockstar says the re-engineered system will make storms more localized and persistent, while the game will feature more than 170 animal species.
On Tuesday, Game Informer confirmed Rockstar Games' GTA 6 will feature an "advanced" weather system designed to reflect Florida's unpredictable climate through a 14-page cover story detailing localized and persistent atmospheric conditions.
Aiming to make Leonida feel "dynamically solid" rather than permanently sunny, Rockstar re-engineered its weather technology as part of a broader push to create a more detailed and reactive world.
The preview also revealed Leonida features over 170 animal species across a map twice the size of GTA 5. Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut confirmed the world's density and hand-crafted quality.
Hurricanes and tropical storms will impact Leonida, with "heavy clouds, strong winds" creating realistic environmental effects. Owen Shepherd, Rockstar vice president of art for lighting and rendering, noted storms leave lasting puddles and rainbows.
Rockstar Games plans to launch GTA 6 on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players await further details on how these weather systems influence gameplay mechanics.
