Growing up with ‘Toy Story’: Andrew Stanton on 30+ years with Woody and Buzz
Stanton says the franchise launched his career and now returns as cowriter and co-director as Toy Story 5 opens in theaters June 12.
Andrew Stanton, the lead writer on the first three Toy Story films, is now co-writing and co-directing the next Toy Story film.
Stanton has spent 34 years with the studio, reflecting on the 'magical thinking' that launched his long history with the franchise.
Pixar filmmaker Stanton recalled that Toy Story 'was the movie that started it all,' with everything since feeling like 'gravy.'
The franchise has historically seen long gaps between films, including an 11-year wait between the second and third installments, before the fourth movie arrived nine years later.
Beyond his work with Woody and Buzz, Stanton directed hits including Finding Nemo and WALL-E, with the new Toy Story film set for theaters on June 12.
Andrew Stanton has spent more than half of his life with “Toy Story.” He was the lead screenwriter of the first three, a saviour of the script in the fourth and now, co-writer and co-director of “Toy Story 5”.
