Polanski Urges Brits to 'Vote Green' to Drag Labour Even Further Left
Polanski said Green wins push Labour left as he urged a three-year brake on private rents and pressed members to campaign in the North London race.
Green Party leader Zack Polanski unveiled a new rent control policy during his speech at the party's annual conference in Brighton on Friday, proposing a "three-year emergency brake on private rents."
In the Holborn and Pancras by-election, Polanski aims to win the seat previously held by Sir Keir Starmer, with the contest described as being on a "knife edge." The Green Party seeks to challenge Labour's dominance for the first time.
Under the proposed "emergency brake," rent increases would be capped at the lowest of CPI, wage growth, or 2% for three years. Polanski argued this would provide renters "vital breathing space" while confronting developer interests.
The campaign team issued an internal briefing requiring at least 1,000 Green Party members to campaign daily until October 8 to secure victory. Members are traveling from Brighton to London to bolster door-to-door efforts.
Polanski urged voters to "Vote Green and watch Labour move," arguing his party's "sustained pressure" has already forced Andy Burnham to shift policy positions on climate and housing. The strategy aims to reshape Labour from the left.
