Local Cuisine to Be Served in Vande Bharat Trains
Indian Railways will progressively expand region-specific cuisine on Vande Bharat trains to improve meal quality and reflect local culture, with PoC trials underway, officials said.
- On Saturday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw instructed officials at a Rail Bhawan review meeting to serve local dishes on Vande Bharat trains, with Ravneet Singh Bittu present.
- Recently, IRCTC began Proof of Concept meal trials on select Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains across various zones to enhance onboard meal quality.
- IRCTC is de-linking meal production from service to rope in branded F&B players like industrial kitchens, restaurant chains and flight caterers, focusing on kitchen infrastructure and supply-chain processes.
- The facility will be expanded to all trains progressively, and officials say this move will enhance passenger experience by showcasing regional culture and culinary preferences on Vande Bharat routes.
- Railways has deactivated 3.03 crore fake accounts and suspended around 2.7 crore user IDs, while about 5,000 new user IDs are added daily on the IRCTC website.
