Govt. Ratifies 8.25% EPF Interest Rate for FY'26, to Be Credited This Month
The rate stays at the same level for the third straight year, and interest will be credited to more than 7.8 crore subscribers this month.
- On Thursday, the Finance Ministry ratified an 8.25% interest rate on EPF deposits for 2025-26, confirming the rate for over 7.8 crore contributing subscribers.
- In March, the Central Board of Trustees, chaired by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, recommended 8.25% for the third consecutive year, establishing the foundation for this ratification.
- Maintaining the 8.25% rate defied suggestions from the Finance Ministry and an investment sub-committee to cut it to 8.10%, creating an estimated loss of Rs 944.06 crore.
- Subscribers will see interest credited by the EPFO this month, while a formal notification from the Ministry is expected later this month.
- By the end of June, the Labour and Employment Ministry plans to launch a digital ecosystem enabling subscribers to withdraw 75% of their corpus via UPI or ATM.
