Abhimanyu gets special permission for Dasara appearance as ‘Nishane Ane’
In a special dispensation, the Forest Department has given 60-year-old veteran Dasara tusker Abhimanyu permission to participate in the 2026 Mysuru Dasara festivities, allowing the legendary elephant to take part in the Jamboo Savari as ‘Nishane Ane’, despite the existing guidelines requiring elephants to retire from service after attaining the age of 60.

Although Abhimanyu, the elephant who carried the golden ambori in the Jambusavari for 6 consecutive times, was retired after turning 60, the government has allowed him to participate as the Nishane elephant in the 2026 Dussehra procession at the insistence of his fans. Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy has instructed the Principal Conservator of Forests to take necessary action in this regard.
