Gordie Howe bridge saw more than 270k crossings in its first full month: StatCan
Statistics Canada says nearly 35,000 transport trucks used the new span to enter Canada last month.
- The newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge recorded more than 270,000 crossings in its first full month of operation following its July 27 opening between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan.
- Statistics Canada recorded nearly 135,000 return trips by Canadian residents and 101,000 trips by U.S. residents at the bridge in August, while 34,800 transport trucks entered Canada last month.
- Meanwhile, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel recorded 348,000 inbound trips by Canadian and U.S. residents in August, a decrease of more than 35 per cent compared to 2025.
- New StatCan data shows Canadian residents' return trips from the United States totaled 2.6 million in August, a nearly nine per cent increase over the same period last year.
- Total travel volume remains lower than in August 2024, when Canadians made over 3.3 million trips to the United States, as travel numbers dropped after Trump began his trade war with Canada last year.
