Gophers add big Pennsylvania running back Niko Castillo to 2026 class

On Friday, the Minnesota Golden Gophers football program picked up a commitment from running back Niko Castillo .
Last week, Texas tailback Jett Walker flipped from the Minnesota Golden Gophers to the Texas Longhorns, prompting the Gophers to seek another running back with a few days until National Signing Day.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound two-way player recorded rushing: 11.8 yards per carry, 865 yards, 13 touchdowns and defense: 66 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, four forced fumbles, with one offer from Kent State.
The Gophers have 29 total commitments for their 206 class, including two running backs Ryan Estrada and Ezekiel Bates, with Niko Castillo now committed to Minnesota.
Despite not having a star rating, Castillo helped lead Schuylkill Haven High School to an undefeated record and the District 11 2A Championship, showcasing his physical two-way play.
