Googlebook finally gets a launch date, and it’s sooner than you would expect
- On September 15, 2026, Google will host an in-person media showcase in New York City to formally reveal its Googlebook laptop platform and the official name of its operating system, previously known as Aluminium OS.
- Google first announced Googlebooks in May as a premium laptop category built on Android technology, introducing the platform at The Android Show earlier this year alongside Android 17 as a Gemini Intelligence-powered alternative.
- Confirmed features include a "magic pointer" letting Gemini AI interact with on-screen content, "Cast My Apps" for phone-to-laptop workflows with universal copy-paste, and the return of the iconic Glowbar design element.
- Journalists will photograph, film, and benchmark production devices in person at dedicated demo stations featuring hardware from launch partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, providing real-world performance data.
- With an "Autumn 2026" release window listed, first-wave models are anticipated to launch globally from late September through October 2026, as the showcase will reveal whether Google's strategy can compete with conventional Windows and ChromeOS machines.
