Google's New AI Features Are Trying to Make Data Entry a Thing of the Past

Gemini AI now helps generate drafts, spreadsheets, and slides using users’ Gmail, Chat, Drive, and web data, initially for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in English.

  • On March 10, 2026, Google began beta rollout of Gemini features in Workspace apps for AI Pro, Ultra subscribers, and Gemini Alpha business customers, with Docs, Sheets, and Slides in English worldwide and Drive in the U.S.
  • Google aims to embed Gemini where people work, minimizing app switching for common tasks; earlier this year, Google expanded AI summaries to Gmail as part of this broader Gemini push.
  • In Google Docs, the 'Help me create' tool uses a Gemini chat side panel and pill-shaped bottom bar to generate formatted drafts pulling from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web, said Kim.
  • A 'Fill with Gemini' capability can auto-populate table cells, and Google says it is nine times faster for 100-cell tasks based on a 95-person study, with private suggestions and secure Drive projects.
  • Google plans to enable single-prompt presentation creation and expand Drive's AI Overview and 'Ask Gemini in Drive', with Google saying Gemini won't access personal data unless users explicitly direct it.
