Google DeepMind Will Train AI Models on the MMORPG Eve Online
Management behind EVE Online developer CCP Games spent $120 million to buy themselves out from South Korean publisher Pearl Abyss, rebranding the newly independent entity as Fenris Creations.
Fenris Creations announced an AI-centric partnership with Google DeepMind, conducting controlled experiments on offline servers to study intelligence without impacting EVE Online players.
Studying EVE allows Google DeepMind's models to explore "difficult problems, long timelines strange possibilities," Fenris CEO Hilmar Veigar said, describing the game as a living world.
Google DeepMind Director Alexandre Moufarek called the simulation "unparalleled in gaming," noting the companies will explore "new gameplay experiences enabled by these technologies."
Expect to hear more details on the research program at EVE Fanfest 2026 next week, as Fenris Creations sees potential for AI-based experiences to reach the game.
