Gold Hits over 3-Month High Ahead of US Inflation Data, Fed Chair Speech

Gold and silver gained more than 5% last week as traders awaited US inflation data, Federal Reserve signals and Jackson Hole remarks.

  • Gold prices hit their highest level in more than three months on Monday, August 24, 2026, as a subdued US dollar lent support. Spot gold rose 0.9 per cent to $4,643.63 per ounce.
  • Bullion prices gained more than 5 per cent last week, driven by US Treasury Department liquidity measures to buy back longer-dated bonds. Analyst Pranav Mer, Senior Vice President, EBG- Commodity & Currency Research, JM Financial Services Ltd, noted gold closed above $4,620.
  • Silver futures for September delivery climbed nearly 7 per cent to $69.53 per ounce in New York, while platinum rose 0.4 per cent to $1,885.38. Comex gold futures for December delivery settled at $4,680.6 per ounce after rising $243.3.
  • Market focus shifted toward key US inflation data and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium, scheduled for August 27–29. Investors anticipate these events will signal the future US interest rate outlook.
  • Geopolitical developments in West Asia remain a focus as analysts suggest bullion may retain upward momentum, though profit-taking could temper rallies. Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, noted policy uncertainty and higher yields remain central to market sentiment.
