Global Market: AMD to Increase AI Chip Supply Substantially in 2027 to Meet Rising Demand
Lisa Su said AMD is working with suppliers to secure more memory and wafer capacity as the company extends its planning horizon to three to five years.
On Tuesday, AMD CEO Lisa Su announced plans to increase investment in Taiwan's supply chain beyond the previously announced $10 billion to meet soaring demand for AI-driven processors.
Booming demand for CPUs and GPUs prompted AMD to extend its planning horizon with partners from two years to five, as the firm works to secure sufficient advanced wafer capacity.
Su visited Taiwan on Tuesday to coordinate with local partners Foxconn and TSMC, while preparing to visit South Korea to discuss supply security with memory giants Samsung and SK Hynix.
Emphasizing the region's role, Su stated, "There's no question, Taiwan is absolutely critical to the semiconductor supply chain and very, very critical for AMD," while encouraging supplier diversification.
AMD expects to "substantially increase" supply in 2027, while Su urged technology companies to coordinate on AI safety, describing a recent summit between President Donald Trump and tech executives as significant.
AMD will significantly expand its chip manufacturing capacity in 2027 to meet the explosive demand for artificial intelligence, announced Lisa Su, the company's CEO, during a visit to Taiwan.
