Five-year-old girl dies after collision with van in Newry, says Police Service of Northern Ireland
Police say a 40-year-old woman was arrested as witnesses are urged to share dash-cam footage after the collision.
On Sunday night, six-year-old Kourtney Khloe McCormick died after being struck by a black Ford Tourneo van in the Springfarm Heights area of Newry, Northern Ireland.
Detective Inspector Stewart from the PSNI's Collision Investigation Unit confirmed the driver, a 40-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody while inquiries continue.
The Carnagat Road remains closed at its junctions with Springfarm Heights and Stony Hill as police continue their investigation into the collision.
Newry and Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins called the event "heartbreaking news that a young child has died," while the Infrastructure Minister added, "My thoughts and prayers are with the child."
Authorities urge anyone with information or dash-cam footage to call the Police Service on 101, quoting reference 1552, to assist the ongoing investigation.
