Dodgers Recall Sheehan to Face Giants, Put Skubal on Bereavement, Hope to Have Ohtani Back Soon
Emmet Sheehan is set to handle bulk innings as the Dodgers shuffle four pitchers and give Tarik Skubal a few days away for personal reasons.
On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled pitchers Emmet Sheehan and Kyle Hurt, optioned Seth Halvorsen to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and placed left-hander Tarik Skubal on the bereavement list.
Skubal earned the win during Saturday's 10-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants, allowing four runs over five innings. Manager Dave Roberts said Skubal will be away for "a couple days" for personal reasons.
With the Dodgers opting for a bullpen game against the Giants, Sheehan returns to provide bulk innings, having allowed just one run over 11.2 innings with 15 strikeouts across his last two starts.
Jack Dreyer starts Sunday's series finale as the Dodgers seek a sweep of their Bay Area rivals, with Kyle Hurt and Seth Halvorsen completing the roster adjustments.
Skubal is expected to return in time to make one more start before the regular season concludes, providing depth as October baseball rapidly approaches.
