Atlanta Law Firm Highlights Truck Accident Risks as Georgia Strengthens Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
Federal data show 10,109 large trucks and buses were involved in Georgia crashes in fiscal 2024, with 184 deaths and 4,443 injuries.
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration data shows 10,109 large trucks and buses were involved in crashes in Georgia during fiscal 2024, resulting in 184 fatalities and 4,443 injuries.
Heavy commercial trucks can weigh approximately 80,000 pounds and require three times the stopping distance of passenger vehicles when traveling 55 mph, creating significant collision risks.
"An accident involving a commercial truck can become complicated very quickly because responsibility may extend beyond the person behind the wheel," said a representative from Dozier Law Firm.
Attorneys from The Law Office of Rickard, Drew & Nix emphasize that "evidence can become one of the most important issues" requiring examination of maintenance records and electronic logging data.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety graduated specially trained commercial vehicle enforcement officers in June 2026 following 19 weeks of training to strengthen safety efforts across major freight corridors.
