Girl Rescued in Chicago Suburbs After Georgia Man Drove to Meet Her, Police Say
Authorities say the girl was found safe and uninjured after deputies used camera technology to locate the suspect’s vehicle, police said.
On Saturday, Lake County Sheriff's deputies rescued a missing girl younger than 14 at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville, arresting 24-year-old Jordy Alexis Fuerte Perez of Norcross, Georgia inside his vehicle.
Deputies were called to a Gurnee home at 4:40 a.m. Saturday after the girl disappeared in the middle of the night, and investigation revealed Fuerte Perez had driven from Georgia to meet her, allegedly seeking a 'romantic relationship.'
Detectives utilized public safety camera technology to locate the vehicle after the girl's cellphone malfunctioned, and Fuerte Perez faces two felony counts of solicitation of child pornography and one count of unlawful possession of cocaine.
The victim, who did not appear physically injured, was transported to the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center for specialized attention, while Fuerte Perez appeared in court Sunday as prosecutors requested detention.
Lake County Sheriff John D. Idleburg stated the case is 'a parent's worst nightmare' and praised the rescue; Fuerte Perez is set to appear for a detention hearing Monday afternoon, Covelli said.
