Genesis hybrids locked in for Australia as brand enters new era with GV80 Hybrid
Genesis says the GV80 Hybrid delivers 259kW and 530Nm as the brand broadens its electrification lineup beyond battery-only models.
On Friday, Genesis revealed the GV80 Hybrid, the luxury brand's first hybrid vehicle, launching next month in Korea with an all-new powertrain delivering roughly 25% improved fuel efficiency.
Following a strategic pivot, the luxury brand reversed its EV-only plan announced in 2021, now embracing hybrid and traditional combustion models to address growing customer demand for diverse powertrain options.
The system delivers 347 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, about 16% and 26% improvements over the current GV80 2.5 Turbo model. Genesis promises an 'EV-like driving experience' through expanded electric motor engagement.
Innovations include Hyundai Motor Group's first liquid-cooled hybrid battery and 'Stay Mode,' enabling comfort features to operate while stationary. Interior updates feature new wood trim and two-tone colorways.
Analysts project hybrids could account for up to 40 percent of global production by 2030, as consumers increasingly favor hybrid efficiency over steep EV prices. Hybrids represented about 1 in 7 new US car sales last year.
