General Mills Names COO Dana McNabb as Next CEO
On Wednesday, General Mills named Chief Operating Officer Dana McNabb as CEO effective January 1, 2027, with longtime CEO Jeff Harmening transitioning to executive chair of the board.
McNabb, 50, assumes leadership as General Mills navigates intense competition from private-label brands and higher costs, while shares have fallen about 27% this year through September 29.
Independent Lead Director Maria Henry credited a "multi-year succession planning process" for the selection, noting that under Harmening, General Mills delivered more than $17 billion to shareholders and added the pet food category.
"Returning the company to profitable growth is the priority, and we know how we'll get there," McNabb said in a statement, as she becomes the first woman to lead the company.
The packaged-food industry has seen widespread turnover among CEOs recently, with Hershey, Coca-Cola, and Kraft Heinz naming new executives amid weakening results and pressure to produce healthier offerings.
