For the first time, an Austrian (state) parliament has an equal number of female and male representatives. This pioneering role can and should be reflected in its work. A commentary.
In all other Austrian federal and state parliaments, the men are still outnumbered. Carinthia is the final light in the proportion of women.
The Vorarlberger Landtag has been gender parity since Wednesday. With the Angelobung of the new NEOS deputy Katharina Fuchs there are for the first time 18 and thus equal numbers of women as men in the 36-member Vorarlberger Landesparlament. Such a numerical equality exists neither in the National Council nor in another federal state. In Vorarlberg the women in three of the five Landtagsklubs are equally strong as the men or have the upper hand.
