Gas Prices in Ottawa Set to Rise Another 8 Cents on Friday After 4 Cent Jump Thursday
Canadians for Affordable Energy forecasts the average price will reach 186.9 cents per litre at most stations after recent April swings.
Drivers in the Greater Toronto Area face an eight-cent jump at the pumps Friday, pushing prices to $1.89 per litre, according to forecasting by Canadians for Affordable Energy.
Global fuel volatility stems from the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, which began Feb. 28, as Iran has restricted traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, constraining one-fifth of world oil supplies.
The Government of Canada suspended the fuel excise tax, saving drivers around 10 cents per litre, yet the expected eight-cent increase effectively erases that relief for consumers.
Construction worker Mathewson and delivery driver Mohammad Shaan report that rising fuel costs severely impact their earnings; Mathewson stated, "Unfortunately the price of gas is the price of gas, and I need it for work."
Industry analysts warn that unpredictable market fluctuations and refinery dynamics will likely continue shifting forecasts frequently, though prices could decrease by two to three cents over the weekend.
