GameStop and Third-Party Resellers Raise Used PS5 Pro Price to $1,400 — a $500 Markup on Sony's RRP
A leaked memo said preowned PS5 Pro consoles will sell for up to $1,499.99, above the $899.99 new-model price.
GameStop has raised prices for preowned PS5 Pros to between $1,399.99 and $1,499.99, according to an internal memo shared with employees. The new pricing is now visible on the retailer's website.
Rockstar claims Grand Theft Auto 6 performs best on PS5 hardware, and high demand for the game has contributed to the console's recent price hike. The PS5 Pro is expected to deliver even stronger performance.
Comparatively, the preowned units cost $600 more than the average new console at $900. Meanwhile, PlayStation Pro owners receive trade-in offers of $800 to $850 for used devices.
Sony released firmware 14.00 on Sept. 16 to counter the 'Relapse' exploit, which allows unauthorized homebrew applications and console emulation. The update includes security measures preventing jailbreaking ahead of new game launches.
Preowned PlayStation consoles will soon become cheaper than new models at GameStop. This shift reflects broader concerns that Sony's decisions regarding digital games and media on PlayStation products lead to unintended consequences.
