The Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood would also negotiate with the Tisza government to regain its pre-2011 legal status, i.e. the higher, established church status.
Following a lengthy legal process, the Metropolitan Court has finally re-registered the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (MET) as a registered church. With the decision, the organization has once again become eligible for the additional state support for its 1 percent personal income tax donations, but the community's ultimate goal is to regain the established church status that ensured its pre-2011 legal status.
The MET would negotiate with the Tisza government to be granted an even higher, established church status.
Gábor Iványi is waiting for negotiations to begin between the government and the MET, based on the laws in force, on the agreement on cooperation and additional state subsidies. In the past three years, due to the downgrading of the status, the MET has lost nearly 2 billion forints of additional subsidies.
