'Futurama' voice actors love season finale cliffhanger
Billy West, Lauren Tom and John DiMaggio say the finale cliffhanger is now a tradition, as the revived series eyes a possible Season 15.
- On Monday, Futurama aired its Season 14 finale on Hulu with no immediate plans for a regular Season 15 renewal, marking the latest pause for the long-running animated series.
- The series previously ran on Fox from 1999 to 2003 and Comedy Central from 2008 until 2013, having been canceled and brought back to life no less than three times before this latest iteration.
- Executive producer David X. Cohen noted this is the sixth time the team has written a potential series finale, while cast members Billy West, Lauren Tom, and John DiMaggio said a season finale cliffhanger is tradition at this point.
- Hulu will release three "XXXL-Sized" specials in 2027 to keep the franchise active, with the first extended episode featuring an Xmas-themed story with Robot Santa.
- Series creator Matt Groening told Variety the team maintains a "whistling-past-the-graveyard" attitude toward cancellation, stating "They can nail the lid shut, but they can't bury us. We will rise again.
