Funeral for fallen OPP officer Tarun Bali set to take place this week
The service will be closed to the public, with a livestream and designated viewing area available for mourners, police said.
The funeral for Tarun Bali will take place Thursday morning at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre, with attendance limited to family, police, military members, and dignitaries.
Bali, 29, was struck by a vehicle last week in Hearst, Ontario, about 520 kilometres east of Thunder Bay, while officers carried out an investigation.
An 18-year-old man faces charges including first-degree murder in connection with the officer's death, as legal proceedings continue.
Police described him as a "dedicated, enthusiastic officer" who spoke Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu and was born in Naya Nangal, India, about 358 kilometres north of New Delhi.
The OPP has arranged a designated location where the public can view the procession and will livestream the service for those unable to attend in person.
