Inflation in France quickened to the fastest pace in more than two years as surging oil and natural gas costs continue to weigh on Europe’s economy. Inflation in the euro area’s second-biggest economy stood at 3.4% in September, up from 2.6% in August, statistics agency Insee said. Consumer prices rose by 3 per cent year-on-year in September, up from 2.4 per cent in August, according to a provisional estimate published this Wednesday.
According to INSEE, this further increase in inflation is due to the acceleration in energy prices (+ 21.2% in September versus + 16.7%) and fresh products (+ 9.9% versus + 5.9% in August). The wave of inflation is mainly due to the outbreak of the war in Iran and the blocking of the Strait of Ormuz.
According to INSEE, inflation over a year stands at 3% over a year in this month of September. This is much more than in August (2.4%), while household consumption falls by 0.5%. - Inflation rises to 3% over a year, French consumption falls (Economy).
