Kanawha County pounded with storms, flash flooding forces rescues
Early morning rains Aug. 16, 2026 caused the National Weather Service to put southeastern Kanawha County, West Virginia under a Flash Flood Warning at 8:41 a.m. Kanawha County is also under a Flood Watch until Aug. 17. Metro 911 has reported several water rescues. Storms continued Sunday afternoon and evening, causing more flooding through the county including in the Cross Lanes/Tyler Mountain area, as well as Cedar Grove.

Woman, four dogs rescued from flooded West Virginia home
DUNBAR, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A woman and four dogs were rescued from a flooded home Sunday afternoon after severe storms brought high water to parts of the Kanawha Valley. The Dunbar Fire Department said crews were dispatched at approximately 4:42 p.m. for a report of water rushing into a residence.
