Tennessee Lands Vanderbilt Transfer Jalen Washington to Complete Roster
Washington averaged 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds last season and won a temporary restraining order to claim a fifth year of eligibility.
On Monday, August 3, former Vanderbilt center Jalen Washington committed to the Tennessee Volunteers for the 2026-27 season after securing an additional year of eligibility through the court system.
Washington gained this additional year of eligibility after joining a lawsuit against the NCAA's "5 in 5" rule; on July 31, a court granted him and 16 other players a temporary injunction.
During his season at Vanderbilt, Washington averaged career-highs for points , rebounds , and blocks per game while shooting 61.8% from 3-point range, establishing himself as a proven power conference starter.
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes added Washington to round out the roster of 14 scholarship players, fulfilling his June pledge to find the "right guy" if a roster spot remained available.
Washington will face his former team at least twice during the 2026-27 season and is likely to be considered a villain when he returns to Memorial Gymnasium on Vanderbilt's Senior Day in 2027.
