Sarasota Police Officer Arrested Following Misuse of Flock Cameras, Among Other Databases
Investigators say he made 358 license plate queries in a database probe that led to felony and misdemeanor charges.
Former Sarasota Police Officer Cory Waiters was arrested and fired on Wednesday, August 19, following an investigation into alleged misuse of law enforcement databases including Flock and DAVID.
Investigators allege Waiters queried a specific license plate 358 times between May 14, 2025, and October 4, 2025, using Flock, despite not actively working on a criminal investigation involving the vehicle.
The department initiated an internal affairs investigation on August 6 after learning of the allegations, and an agency-wide audit completed on August 14 confirmed compliance across the rest of the department.
Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche stated, "We take allegations of misconduct seriously," and emphasized the agency addresses actions falling short of professionalism "appropriately and without hesitation."
Waiters faces two felony charges—offenses against electronic devices and official misconduct—plus a misdemeanor for violating public records law, and is being held at the Sarasota County Jail.
