Former PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies At 90
Former PDP chairman Bamanga Tukur died after a prolonged illness, and his family said burial prayers will be held in Yola on Sunday.
- Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party , died on Saturday at his Abuja residence at age 90 following a prolonged illness.
- Tukur previously served as General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, then became governor of the former Gongola State before serving as Minister of Industries under General Sani Abacha.
- Beyond domestic politics, he led the African Business Roundtable as Executive President and chaired the NEPAD Business Group, holding the traditional title of Tafidan Adamawa and the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger.
- President Bola Tinubu stated Nigeria will "sorely miss his wise counsel and fatherly guidance," while Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri mourned the death as a "monumental loss" to the state and nation.
- Tukur's remains will be transported to Yola for burial on Sunday, September 13, 2026, as Governor Fintiri declared three days of mourning across Adamawa State with flags at half-mast.
