Ex-college lecturer jailed for killing couple in drink-driving crash
Hynd had been drinking for about nine hours before the head-on crash, and a judge said her decision had dreadful consequences.
On Wednesday, the High Court in Edinburgh jailed former Fife College lecturer Sophie Hynd for six years after she admitted causing a fatal drink-drive crash on December 19 last year.
Hynd had been drinking for nine hours before deciding to drive her Nissan Qashqai, which collided head-on with a Volkswagen Polo on the B981 in Cluny, Fife.
Victims Jatinder Kaur, 48, and her husband Satwant Singh, 64, died from injuries sustained in the crash; their 19-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were also injured.
Judge Michael O'Grady KC said Hynd's decision had "dreadful consequences," accepting her remorse as "genuine and profound." Defense lawyer Ewen Roy stated the events will "haunt her forever."
In a statement released through law firm Digby Brown, the victims' three children said they "will miss them more than words can express" but will carry their parents' love forever.
