Senate GOP Appoints Special Counsel in Hobbs Pay-to-Play Investigation

On Monday, Arizona Senate Republicans appointed former Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould as special counsel for their investigation into Governor Katie Hobbs, transferring the probe to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

Senate Democrats cited their Friday letter to Senate President Petersen questioning the probe, while Hoffman defended the appointment, stating, "Transferring the proceedings and placing former Justice Gould at the center takes away their excuses for non-cooperation."
The committee plans to conduct a disciplined review of evidence, seeking testimony and records related to the half million dollars in political contributions before publishing final findings and legislative reform recommendations.
