Ford recalls more than 250,000 Focus models because engines can stall unexpectedly
Dealers will install a free powertrain software update after Ford said a faulty valve can cause engines to stall and raise crash risk.
Ford is recalling 255,404 Ford Focus models from 2012–2018 because a faulty canister purge valve can cause engines to stall unexpectedly, raising crash risk.
This action addresses a defect not adequately resolved in the previous 18V735 recall, which caused engines to stall while driving and increased crash and injury potential.
Ford dealers will provide a complimentary powertrain software update to rectify the defect, and owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 referencing recall number 26S40.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration issued recall 26V369, and owners can search for their vehicle identification numbers on NHTSA.gov starting July 6.
Ford, headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, continues operations at the Ford World Headquarters as this recall ensures safety for owners of the affected Ford Focus models.
