Food Delivery To The Gate: Airline Launches New Service At Newark Airport
The pilot lets eligible passengers pre-order meals and travel essentials, with United planning to collect feedback before expanding the service.
United Airlines launched a pilot program at Newark Liberty International Airport allowing travelers to pre-order food and essentials via the app for gate pickup in Terminal C.
Collaborating with hospitality firm OTG Management, United aims to reduce travel friction. Chief Customer Officer David Kinzelman said, "The time right before boarding is one of those moments when customers want quick, easy access to food without added complexity."
Passengers at nine designated gates—C125 through C138—can order sandwiches, salads, drinks, and travel essentials including charging cords and over-the-counter medicine, with purchases waiting at pickup shelves.
United plans to expand the pilot to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport later this year and may integrate the ordering service into seatback inflight entertainment screens following customer feedback.
Recent updates also include a standby feature letting passengers sign up for up to three earlier flights during disruptions, alongside the airline's rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi and "Relax Row" flat-bed economy seating.
