El-Sayed Condemns Hamas War Crimes While Accusing Israel of Genocide
El-Sayed said his win offers Democrats a chance to unite behind a coalition aimed at defeating Mike Rogers and Trumpism in November.
Abdul El-Sayed, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, won Michigan's primary on August 4 with 48.5 percent of the vote, narrowly defeating Rep. Haley Stevens and advancing to face Republican Mike Rogers in November.
Despite being outspent by roughly 9 to 1, El-Sayed secured the nomination with $678,000 in support from American Priorities, a Muslim-American-backed super PAC backing his Medicare for All platform.
Following his victory, El-Sayed affirmed support for capitalism and the US-NATO war against Russia, citing a "really warm and inspiring conversation" with former President Barack Obama to reassure the Democratic establishment.
Democratic leaders including Stevens embraced El-Sayed at a unity breakfast on Thursday, posting "One team Michigan" to mobilize voters for the general election contest against Rogers.
El-Sayed's victory signals growing influence of Muslim-American donors within the Democratic Party, positioning this bloc to shape the 2028 presidential contest and define the party's future direction.
